FAQ’s
What Would My Donation Support?
100 percent of donations are used to support emergency out-of-classroom financial burdens that threaten the educational progress of nursing students at six Upstate New York community colleges. Examples include car repairs, bridge rent, utility bills, online study tools, uniforms, PPE and clinical kit bags.
Who Determines Who Gets What?
Nursing Department chairs at the community colleges supported by the Mary Porcari Brady Fund have full control of the award criteria and disbursement process. The fund managers require only a full year-end accounting of disbursements.
Can Anyone Or Any Entity Give?
Absolutely. The Mary Porcari Brady Fund can legally accept individual donations, third party contributions from private foundations, estate awards and the like. One hundred percent of all donations are tax deductible and one hundred percent of those donations go to nursing students. All overhead and administrative costs are covered by the family of Mary Porcari Brady.
Why Do You Do This?
In the early 1970’s the four surviving children of the late Mary Porcari Brady watched their Mom work nights, weekends and holidays to obtain her RN from Monroe Community College in Rochester, seeing her juggling family finances, obligations and the like. After her passing in 2001, Jinny Porcari Keough, James A. Porcari III, John D. Porcari and Charles F Porcari, in consultation with the MCC Wolk School of nursing leadership, established the fund in 2005. Since expanded to five other Upstate New York community college campuses, the MPB Fund has distributed over $1 million helping hundreds of student nurses obtain their degrees.
