Provides Micro-Grants for both unexpected financial challenges that would otherwise deter studies – as well as tuition support for specific community college classes that transfer to bachelor of nursing programs at 4-year schools.

100% of All MPB Fund Donations are used to support upstate student nurses.  Overhead and administrative costs are donated by the fund managers.

As of January 2024, the MPB Fund has thus far delivered over $900,000 in emergency and scholarship funds to assist hundreds of nursing students in Upstate New York.

All donations are confidential unless donor wishes otherwise, and we do not solicit donors for other purposes. Donations can be designated in honor of an individual, family or organization.

As a 501(c)3, all donations to the MPB Fund DAF are 100% tax deductible.

Dedicated to Assisting Nursing Students at Upstate New York Community Colleges

Created in 2005, the Mary Porcari Brady Fund to date has distributed over $900,000 in direct grants to hundreds of nursing students at five Upstate New York community colleges, funding non-tuition expenses that could have forced them to withdraw from school. Expenses covered have included childcare, emergency auto repairs, utility expenses, LPN-to-RN program and other mandated testing fees, and out-of-pocket costs for nursing student supply bags (stethoscope, BP cuffs, etc.), uniforms, scrubs and shoes.
At the outset of the COVID-19 epidemic, the MPB Fund provided emergency funds for PPE for use in both classroom and clinical settings.
Created and maintained in concert with faculty at Monroe Community College, Onondaga Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Cayuga Community College and Tompkins-Cortland Community College, as well as the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the purpose of the MPB Fund – to provide students a temporary bridge in times of unexpected need – will continue to be its guiding light.
All donations go directly to nursing students. The surviving children of the late Mary Porcari Brady cover all administrative overhead and ancillary costs.
We welcome your 100% tax deductible donations – for New York State residents donations are directly deductible from your personal income tax bill – to help us grow our impact in providing this vital support tool for nursing students in their time of need.

This letter is in appreciation for the scholarship money I am receiving for my summer Nursing course. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to be approved for this as I have been working for the last 4 years on my bachelor’s degree in the RN program.

I am a single mom, and I am trying to be a role model for my children and show them they can achieve anything they want with determination and effort. This scholarship will help me to complete the program and graduate. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity as I would not have been able to complete my degree without this.

I would like to extend my greatest gratitude to you for approving me for this wonderful scholarship. It means so much to me to receive the help I need to continue succeeding in school and graduate in May!

This scholarship is going toward my car payment which I need to travel back and forth to school without being so stressed.

Thank you so much!

I would like to take the time to thank you again for your help while finishing my nursing degree. As a single mom of three, it has been hard keeping up with all my living expenses while pursuing my nursing degree.

This means so much not only to me but to my family as well! Having support like this allows me to keep up with my studies and not have to stress about how I am going to pay the rent.

I am sincerely honored to have been selected as a recipient of the May Porcari Brady Scholarship. I absolutely would not have gotten to this point on my own. Thank you for your generosity.

The scholarship will be used to defray my rental expenses for two months. Which will allow me to continue with my studies and be stress-free as a nursing student at Finger Lakes Community College. The end of the road is in sight, and it is my goal to be successful and to walk that stage come May. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is hard work.

Thank you very much for enabling me to continue to do the hard work to succeed.

Thank you so much for the funds you provided me to get my plumbing fixed. Because of your generosity, I can continue with the nursing program and graduate this December.

After receiving this gift I was able to focus on the important things in my life and not just maintain my grades, but bring them up to A’s. Again, I am at a loss of words for what this means to me, and I look forward to the day when I can contribute so significantly to another deserving nursing student down the road.

You were there when I had no one and had almost lost hope. You gave me a chance without ever saying one word to me or knowing who I am….

Our students, almost all of whom are adult students with multiple other life responsibilities, face situations that I cannot imagine overcoming. Yet they persevere, sacrifice and work so hard that they actually do succeed. When I see them at their pinning ceremony, proud and accomplished, I can only marvel at the achievement that they have reached. You are part of that achievement for several individuals who would have never walked across that stage without that little bit of life-changing support they received because of your contribution.
